Contracts worth up to £4 million have secured continued growth for Dundee based building services company, McGill.
The firm has won a £400,000 contract with Loreburn Housing Association and has been appointed to a £3.6m framework agreement with Falkirk Council.
The work involves upgrading smoke, fire and carbon monoxide alarms in response to new legislation introduced after the Grenfell disaster.
The alarms must now be networked and fitted in specified areas in domestic properties owned by local authorities and registered social landlords.
With a completion deadline of March 2021, a number of contracts have been up for grabs, with McGill securing a number of them.
McGill’s fire and security team are currently delivering similar contracts across Scotland for several different clients including Fife Council, Langstane and Castlehill Housing Associations, both in and around Aberdeen.
The announcement comes after the firm was appointed to Govanhill Housing Association’s £20m major repairs framework last month.
McGill Managing Director, Douglas Thomson commented; “Whilst the past couple of months have been very difficult for our business and, of course, the entire industry, it is fantastic to have been awarded these contracts and continue the growth of McGill.
“Our estimating and bid teams have continued to work remotely during the Covid-19 situation and their efforts in securing this work have been great.”
The firm also highlighted the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the construction industry in Scotland, with only essential work permitted under Scottish Government guidance.
The company now has a headcount of 70 staff and is looking to recruit more as well as offering more apprenticeship opportunities.
It is currently bidding on a number of “substantial contracts” throughout Scotland.
The string of succesful contract bids highlights a remarkable turnaround for the firm.
McGill & Co Ltd went into administration early in 2019, with the loss of 379 jobs.
The company and a number of assets were subsequently purchased from administration by property entrepreneur Graeme Carling who then purchased McGills’s Dundee HQ.
The firm’s operation expanded when it opened a Glasgow office in August last year.
