The company behind a major St Andrews housing development has issued a call to arms for Fife businesses ahead of work beginning.

David Wilson Homes, part of Barratt Developments, is about to start work on 342 new homes following a recent land purchase in Craigtoun.

The housebuilder is calling on sub-contractors from across Fife to come forward and learn more about the opportunities available.

Work will soon commence at the David Wilson Homes site, which sits close to Younger Gardens in the south-east of Craigtoun.

Ambitious multi-million-pound plans for the site were given the go-ahead in 2018.

The new community will comprise up to 240 private and 103 affordable homes.

The housebuilder will be hosting a meet-the-developer event next week to help it grow its pool of tradespeople.

Looking for Fife tradespeople

Barratt Developments Scotland commercial director Lynn Gordon said: “We’re really pleased to have finalised our purchase of the land at Craigtoun in St Andrews.

“We are now looking to supplement our existing sub-contractor base to help us deliver this high-quality housing development.

“Those who believe they have the relevant skills and experience may have worked with us previously or be new to Barratt Developments.

“Alternatively, they could currently be working in the commercial sector and considering expanding into housebuilding.”

A ‘vital part of our business’

It is looking to expand its supply chain across a variety of trades. That will help to ensure it has the necessary skilled labour in place for the project.

Ms Gordon said anyone interested should register their interest in advance by emailing meetthedeveloperbes@barratthomes.co.uk

The event takes place at the Apex City Quay hotel in Dundee from 9am on August 8.

It will involve a presentation from the developer and a discussion of the plans for the St Andrews project.
