The company which owned The West House in Dundee has been liquidated owing a £140,000 VAT bill.
Swig Group Ltd, which was registered in London and listed Andrew McMahon as sole director, was put into liquidation in June.
The company traded as The West House, a popular bar and restaurant on Dundee’s South Tay Street.
Mr McMahon also operates Top Dog Sports Bar on West Marketgait and recently took over the former Boat Brae restaurant in Newport, Fife.
Despite the liquidation, The West House remains open and business remains unaffected.
But HMRC are listed as the sole preferential creditors, according to the statement of affairs.
The report, signed off by Mr McMahon, notes HMRC (VAT) being owed £140,000 from Swig Group.
Begbies Traynor were appointed liquidators for Swig Group on June 18.
The West House
Mr McMahon confirmed to The Courier that Swig Group had been placed in creditors liquidation.
He added: “The liquidation has caused no job losses. There are no other creditors and there has been no interruption to the business.”
A spokesperson for HMRC said they could not comment on identifiable tax payers, due to strict confidentiality rules.
Chain of pubs and restaurants
Mr McMahon and his wife Esther took over the running of Shoreline in Newport earlier this month.
Formally known as Boat Brae, the restaurant has had a number of owners.
Businessman Rod McCreadie took over the business in the summer of 2024, but his tenure was short lived.
The restaurant closed again amid the news that one staff member had not been paid their wages.
Boat Brae was run before that by the Beaton family.
It was closed in 2022 after a fire, but reopened later that same year.
They were eventually forced to close it for good in February 2024 as a result of rising costs.
Mr McMahon is also the registered owner of Top Dog Sports Bar, which opened as a new pub offering in 2024.
It took the place of former chain dessert restaurant Kaspa’s, which closed in 2023.
