Flood alert for Dundee and Angus amid Met Office warning for further heavy rain

A flood alert has been issued for flooding in Dundee and Angus amid a weather warning for heavy rain.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has put an amber alert in place for Dundee and Angus.

The warning states: “Rivers throughout the region are expected to rise due to prolonged rain on Monday. Potential impacts could include localised flooding of land and roads, including individual properties, particularly in southern areas of the region.

“Flooding from surface water is also possible during heavier periods of rain on Monday.

“Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property.  Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188.”

The Met Office has also issued a warning for “further heavy rain may cause some flooding and disruption to travel”.

The yellow warning covers Dundee, Angus, Fife and much of Perthshire.

It reads: “Rain will become prolonged and heavy at times during Sunday night and well into Monday across eastern Scotland, moving south into southeast Scotland during the day. 15-25 mm of rain is expected widely, with the most exposed high ground seeing 40-60 mm.

“Strong east to northeasterly winds are also expected, particularly near coasts where gusts of 50 mph are likely during Monday afternoon.”
