A broken-down Caledonian Sleeper service in Angus caused rail chaos on Tuesday morning.
The Euston to Aberdeen train encountered issues near Arbroath, and affected services from the Granite City to Dundee, Fife, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The incident, which occurred between 7am and 8am, has led to almost three hours of delays.
The line was reopened and the broken-down train on the move by about 10am, but disruption is continuing.
A post on the Caledonian Sleeper official Twitter account reads: “The Euston to Aberdeen service has stopped just outside Arbroath due to loco failure and a replacement loco is on the way.
“Caledonian Sleeper sincerely apologise for any inconvenience these disruptions may cause you and we are doing all we can to resolve these issues as soon as possible.”
ScotRail posted: “Following a broken-down train earlier today between Arbroath and Montrose the line is now open. Disruption is expected until 11am.
“Train services between Edinburgh and Aberdeen are returning to normal but some services may still be delayed or revised.
“The broken-down train is now on the move and we are working hard to get services back on schedule”
