Dundee’s new 20mph zone: Speed limit to be cut on these 47 city streets from Friday

The first 20mph zone will be in Douglas.

The first of Dundee’s new 20mph zones will come into effect on Friday.

Forty-seven streets in the Douglas area of the city are covered under the temporary scheme aimed at creating a safer environment for locals. All the streets included in the zone are listed below.

Roads in Douglas have been marked and signposted to remind drivers of the new rules.

More 20mph zones will be put in place in Broughty Ferry, Perth Road and Fintry in the coming weeks.

The Spaces for People project was made possible as a result of £460,000 of funding from the Scottish Government in May.

The money is also being used to close Union Street in Dundee city centre to traffic.

Dundee City Council’s city development committee convener Alan Ross said: “This is one of a raft of what I believe are positive measures that will create a safer street environment in the weeks and months ahead.

“The four temporary 20mph zones will improve road safety in these areas of Dundee for pedestrians and cyclists as we move into the future stages of easing lockdown.

“I’m sure that people will adapt to this change in a constructive way and quickly get used to being able to walk and cycle more safely as ways of protecting public health, supporting physical distancing and preventing a second wave of the virus.”
