Rail services have been thrown into chaos after a person was hit by a train in Edinburgh.
Trains serving Fife, Perth and Dundee were delayed following the incident which was announced by ScotRail just after 9.30pm on Wednesday.
The casualty was struck on the line between Haymarket and South Gyle.
ScotRail said its services were severely disrupted, with lines closed between Haymarket and Inverkeithing, and disruption was likely to continue for the rest of the evening.
It tweeted: “Sadly, due to a person being hit by a train between Haymarket and #Inverkeithing, services through these stations are disrupted.”
It said services between Edinburgh and Perth, Dundee and Aberdeen would be revised, with trains diverted where possible.
Replacement buses were expected to run from Edinburgh Waverley to Perth and Dundee around 10.45pm.
Travellers at stations affected were advised to use help points on platforms or ask station staff for information.
They were also advised that tickets could be used on Stagecoach Bus services.
