A major bus firm operating across Tayside and Fife has advised locals to go home early after forecasters predicted “extreme” winter weather.
Stagecoach East Scotland said it cannot “guarantee services” after 3pm following a red warning of snow issued for the region by the Met Office. Fife is expected to be the worst hit area.
Forecasters said “heavy snow showers” will accompany the deteriorating conditions moving into Tayside and Fife, which is being caused by a weather system from Russia labelled “the Beast from the East”.
Posting on Twitter, Stagecoach East Scotland said: “Met Office now confirm a red warning will be in place across the region from 3pm today, therefore our advice is to commence journeys home ASAP as we cannot guarantee services will operate beyond this time. We’ll continue to post updates here.”

More than 1ft of snow could land in areas of the East Coast from Wednesday into Thursday.
City bus firm Xplore Dundee, which runs services to local schools, said it is “closely monitoring” the weather but that it aims to “maintain” as many routes as it can.
❄️ A red weather warning has been issued for the region. We are closely monitoring road/weather conditions, and liaising with others. We cannot say at this time what will happen in the evening peak; the prevailing plan is to maintain as much services as we safely can.

Schools across Courier Country have been closed and a number of crashes took place as a result of the freezing winter weather.
