A man was flown to hospital following a “serious” crash on one of the region’s busiest roads on Tuesday.
A collision involving a car and an HGV took place on the A9 Perth to Stirling road, at Balhaldie – approximately one mile from the Shell service station, heading towards Stirling – just before 1pm.
It forced a closure of the southbound section of the busy route.
An air ambulance was called to the scene, along with firefighters and police.
A man was flown to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 12.58pm on Tuesday, June 12 to attend a road traffic collision on the A9 at Balhaldie.
“We dispatched two managers, two ambulances, our trauma team, our special operations team and a Helimed air ambulance to the scene.
“One male patient was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”
Motorists were advised to avoid the area until further notice.
Drivers were told to divert onto the M90 Perth to Edinburgh road at Broxden Roundabout due to the incident.
Inspector Andrew Thomson, from Police Scotland’s road policing unit in Stirling, said: “Our collision investigation is likely to be ongoing for a number of hours and the southbound carriageway is closed, which has also allowed the air ambulance helicopter to land.
“As such, drivers should look to utilise Broxden and travel south via the M90, rather than the A9.
“We are working to establish the full circumstances of this incident and anyone who was on the road at the time and witnessed what happened should contact police immediately.”

Some motorists posted comments on social media following the accident, with one driver stating traffic was at a “standstill” heading towards Perth from the Dunblane exit of the A9.
Traffic Scotland said: “The A9 is closed southbound after Perth due to a road traffic incident.
“Motorists are advised to divert via the M90 from Broxden roundabout and should allow extra time for their journey.
“All southbound traffic is being diverted from Broxden Roundabout onto the M90 to continue their journey.”
Police in Forth Valley are appealing for witnesses to the accident.
Those with information are being urged to contact the police’s road policing unit in Stirling via 101, quoting the incident number 1704.
