Emergency services attended an incident at the Tay Bridge on Tuesday evening.
British Transport Police (BTP) said specialist officers had been called to the rail crossing in response to a trespasser on the line.
The alarm was raised at around 7pm.
Officers from BTP were assisted by Police Scotland, the ambulance service and the Broughty Ferry lifeboat. Rail services between Dundee and Edinburgh were disrupted during the operation, with BTP thanking the public for their “patience and understanding”.
BTP later said that a man had been safely removed from the bridge and that ScotRail was working “to get services on the move as soon as possible”.
