A motorist has been charged with careless driving after police had to close part of the A94 north of Scone yesterday following a serious collision.

Officers confirmed two vehicles were involved in the crash at around 2pm on Friday afternoon just outside Perth Airport.

Both vehicles were declared undriveable when emergency services arrived, forcing the road to be closed and drivers into taking diverted routes.

It is understood  nobody involved in the collision suffered any serious injuries.

One of the motorists was charged with careless driving when cops arrived at the scene.

The road reopened around two and a half hours after the collision.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Due to a road traffic collision, the A94 has been closed near Perth Airport, north of Scone.

“One driver has been charged with careless driving.

“Thanks to everyone for your patience while this was dealt with.”

The stretch of road remained closed entirely as the wreckage had to be cleared up.

Perth and Kinross Council described the crash as “serious” and advised motorists to keep away from the site while the situation was dealt with.

A local authority spokesperson said: “Due to a serious road traffic collision at the junction of the A94/C402 leading to Kilspindie, the road has been closed.

“Drivers have been asked to avoid the area.”

This is the fifth collision on the road between Scone and Balbeggie in the past five years.

Seven people have been injured since 2014 on the 2.6 mile stretch of road.

The last crash on the road happened in July 2017, where two people were injured after two cars collided at the same Rait road junction.

Strathmore councillor Colin Stewart has highlighted the need for safe driving on the rural roads in his ward.

He said: “There has been a number of incidents at different points along the A94.

“It’s important to know that it takes different sorts of traffic and passes through lots of small settlements.

“As a result, it is really important that on these country roads, drivers observe the speed limit and drive to the driving conditions.”
