Business Gateway has adapted its services to ensure firms struggling have access to crucial support throughout the coronavirus crisis.

All previously planned workshops are now available as webinars and a suite of new resources has been developed to support businesses trying to adapt to new circumstances.

A dedicated coronavirus business support section on the Business Gateway website provides video tutorials, checklists, articles and guides covering topics including continuity planning, taking trading online, managing your business reputation, working from home and cash flow.

Appointments with specialist advisers are also available via video or telephone calls.

Demand for support has been high, with Business Gateway reporting a huge increase in calls from business owners sharing concerns about how the nationwide lockdown will impact their operations.

Many questions received relate to the Government Business Support Fund, including eligibility for the scheme and how to access the funding. Other common queries include HR support and for digital business skills.

Business Gateway website visits have increased by 35% since the lockdown was introduced, with people also spending longer on the site.

Since the lockdown was introduced, Business Gateway has delivered more than 40 webinars on every aspect of running a business.

Councillor Steven Heddle, CoSLA’s spokesperson for environment and economy, said: “I want to reassure business owners that Business Gateway and local authorities will continue to help them throughout the current crisis – whether that’s on the phone, a video call, a webinar or through advice on our website.

“Our advisers are receiving a high volume of calls and are responding to all queries as quickly as possible.

“We are tracking the most common questions coming from businesses, and will continue to develop new digital resources, expand our delivery of virtual services and, crucially, provide reassuring assurance and advice throughout the coronavirus outbreak.”
