In more than 40 years practising law in and around Dundee, Jack Robertson made a point of always being meticulously prepared for whatever came his way in his professional life.
But he couldn’t have been caught more off guard than he was at The Courier Business Awards when he was awarded the Outstanding Contribution prize for 2016.
Feted by long-time friends and colleagues, Jack’s career has seen him spearhead Thorntons drive from a provincial legal practice to a major Scottish law firm.
Along the way he has delivered legal advice to – and been a sounding board for – hundreds of businesses and individuals in the Tayside area.
Courier editor Richard Neville read the award citation but left it to Jack’s children Linda, Colin, Carolyn and Alison to present their dad with his prize.
Jack said he was truly humbled by the honour.
“I did not see it coming — I didn’t have a clue,” he said.
“I’m feeling quite elated in many ways but also shocked. I’m a bit numb at the moment actually, particularly when my children turned up to present the award. That was a lovely touch.”
