Dundee-based engineering group expands to north-east

GA Engineering in now part of the Pryme Group.
GA Engineering in now part of the Pryme Group.

Pryme Group, the new owner of Dundee firm GA Engineering, has bought an Aberdeenshire engineering company to add specialist design, testing and assembly services to its range.

The Dundee-based engineering group offers a one-stop, complete service spanning fabrication, assembly, hydraulics and test and project management.

It saw SengS Subsea Engineering Solutions of Ellon as a firm that could open new markets, and it has bought the company for an undisclosed sum.

Pryme, which is owned by Simmons Private Equity, operated as Glass Acquisitions before changing its name last year.

GA Engineering became part of Glass in 2015, and now GA Scotland and GA Sliding Head, which are both at West Pitkerro in Dundee, are two of the six Pryme subsidiaries.

Murray Kerr, managing director of SengS, said: “Partnering with Pryme will allow SengS to continue to grow through expanding its capability offering for its current customers and providing access to new customers and sectors.

“I look forward working with the Pryme management team and board as we continue to grow the group”.

SengS provides services in subsea engineering design consultancy, equipment testing and assembly, repair and refurbishment and subsea equipment rental.

It was formed by Mr Kerr in 2012, and operates from purpose-built facilities with state of the art testing capabilities, serving a number of customers.

Despite market challenges, SengS has continued to grow its customer base and deliver strong earnings.

Its acquisition expands Pryme’s range of services by bringing engineering design, specialist testing and assembly services to the group.

By doing so, Pryme can take another step in its strategy of developing a full outsourced manufacturing service for its customers.

SengS will also bring complementary customers to Pryme, which already sells into aerospace, defence and general industrial sectors.

Pryme chairman Lawrence Ross said “SengS is responsive, cost competitive and creative. Exactly what the oil and gas industry needs as it continues to manage costs downwards.”
