Arnold Clark has sold its former showroom in Perth city centre to Network Rail in a deal worth £950,000.

The St Leonards Bank premises which lies adjacent to the main line railway station, will be used to create a new maintenance depot.

Currently Network Rail’s staff are spread over several locations in Perth.

The purchase will allow the rail company to consolidate their resources in one place as well as providing better storage facilities for its vehicles.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Perth is a key location on our network, linking the Highland and East Coast lines to the Central Belt.

“We have many staff based in the city and have acquired this site to provide a new maintenance depot.”

The one acre site — which as well as the showroom included a workshop facility, external car parking and a yard — was marketed for sale by Shepherd Chartered Surveyors.

Jonathan Reid, partner at Shepherd, said: “We’re delighted to secure this sale on behalf of our client to Network Rail following much interest in this attractive accommodation and site in Perth.”

Meanwhile, a former Arnold Clark showroom in Kemnay, Aberdeenshire, which sits on a 6.8 acre plot has been sold to Safelift Offshore, a supplier of offshore lifting equipment.

The value of this deal is undisclosed.

Arnold Clark estates manager Derek Cuthbertson said: “The successful sale of these two sites was assisted greatly by Shepherd’s partner-led approach combined with an in-depth knowledge of the local markets to achieve the desired deal.”
