Two locations in Rosyth are in the running to host an offside construction centre to help deliver Heathrow’s third runway.
Babcock in Rosyth and the Port of Rosyth, operated by Forth Ports, will today be named in a shortlist of four locations to host the Scottish hub.
Heathrow is looking to construct as much of the expanded airport offsite as possible.
The hub will help to deliver the runway and bringing jobs and economic opportunities.
Emma Gilthorpe, Heathrow’s executive director for expansion, said: “This innovative approach will be more cost effective, efficient and sustainable, helping to unlock much needed capacity quickly and responsibly.
“We are working with other major infrastructure projects to see if they might also benefit from these hubs, creating a bright, new future for the UK’s construction sector.”
Scotland is the only part of the UK which is guaranteed a logistics hub as part of a memorandum of understanding between the airport and the Scottish Government.
The Scottish shortlist also features Prestwick airport and Mossend International Railfreight Park.
Derek Knox, senior port manager at the Port of Rosyth, said: “In Rosyth we offer a great location, land and expertise for a logistics hub of this scale.
“There has been recent significant investment in the port and it played a key role as the logistics hub for the construction project of the new Queensferry Crossing.”
There will be four construction sites across the UK, with the shortlisted locations having the opportunity to pitch in the Autumn before a final decision is announced next year.
