Eye-catching: Young farmers are raising smiles from motorists with their creations.

Bale art has appeared in 50 fields across Scotland as young farmers from Orkney to Lanarkshire take part in a competition to make motorists smile.

The annual Scottish Association of Young Farmers’ Clubs challenge winners will be revealed tomorrow. Finalists include Brechin YFC, Forfar YFC, Strathmore JAC, Beith YFC, Lower Nithsdale YFC, Keith & District, Lower Speyside YFC, Strichen JAC, Bell Baxter JAC, Kinross JAC, Bathgate JAC and Harray YFC. The aim was to promote mental wellbeing, with the key message “keep talking” – rural charity RSABI’s campaign slogan – and the young farmers had to work within government guidelines and maintain social distancing.

Brechin YFC’s bales can be seen from the A90 a few miles south of the town and Forfar YFC’s are also visible from the A90 north of Dundee. Strathmore JAC’s bales are by the A926 Blairgowrie to Alyth Road, Keith and District’s are alongside the A96 Keith to Huntly road, along from Netherton, and Lower Speyside YFC’s bales are at the A96 Kinloss turn-off.
