Blether with Brown: Bob is top Fox soccer/sports analyst

I hadn’t seen former Tayport amateur player Iain Brown for quite some time.

Iain, of Broughty Ferry, reminded me that I should be getting in touch with another of his friends, Bobby McMahon, who works with Fox Sports in Canada and is a regular reader online of BwB.

Bobby has his own Wikipedia link and it reads . . .

Robert “Bobby” McMahon is a Scottish football analyst for Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports World Canada.

He appears exclusively on Fox Soccer News.

He also maintains a blog called Soccer Report Extra.

Born in Dundee, McMahon played football at school and youth level, before going on to play for Tayport in Fife.

During his time with the Port, he was selected for a Scottish Amateurs team trial. He also had a brief spell at junior level.

After emigrating to Canada in 1979, he played on and coached a number of teams in Winnipeg while representing Manitoba on many occasions, highlighted by a representative game against Bologna.

He was the Chief Operating Officer of the 1999 Pan American Games.

There you are . . . just goes to show that top sports personalities read this column!

Anyway, Iain tells me he is now working part-time on a consultancy basis with Brewin Dolphin (formerly Bell Lawrie) at City Quay, Dundee, where the branch manager is none other than former St Johnstone and Dundee centre-half Ian Macdonald.
