A Dundee University student is on track for a glittering career after winning a jewellery design competition, which will see her ideas made into a real-life product.

Angela Gillies beat competition from 100 other budding designers as part of the Ingle & Rhode 2017 Fairtrade Gold Design Awards.

The 35-year-old has won £500, as well as a work experience placement with Ingle & Rhode, who will transform her design into a piece of jewellery to be exhibited at her end of year show and the New Designers Exhibition, before being auctioned to raise money for the Fairtrade Foundation.

Highly commended designs, category winners, and the overall winner were announced at the Fair Luxury 2017 conference in Birmingham earlier this week.
This is the first year the awards have run, recognising up and coming talent within the jewellery design industry.

Tim Ingle, co-founder at Ingle & Rhode, said: “The talent we have seen during these awards has been outstanding and we want to congratulate Angela for her stunning design.

“These awards were set out to raise awareness of Fairtrade gold amongst jewellery students, apprentices and those early in their jewellery careers, and I feel we have achieved that.”

Angela and Lucy are both students on the Jewellery and Metal Design course at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.
