Young children in two classes at a Fife school have been told to stay at home for two weeks after a pupil contracted coronavirus.

Parents of youngsters in the P1D and P1A/2C classes at Capshard Primary School were told they must self-isolate and not return to school until September 21.

News of the positive case at the Kirkcaldy school emerged on Monday while contact tracing continued.

In an update issued on Tuesday, NHS Fife said the pupil with the virus had mild symptoms.

It also said: “There continues to be no evidence of any onward transmission within the school and the risk of contracting coronavirus for both pupils and school staff remains low.

“Following a risk assessment by NHS Fife, pupils in Primary 1D and Primary 1A/2C are being contacted by the NHS Test and Protect team who will provide appropriate public health support and advice.

“Parents are being advised that pupils in these classes must self-isolate for 14 days from September 4, and can return to school on Monday, September 21, providing they remain symptom-free.”

NHS Fife issued a reminder that anyone experiencing Covid-19 symptoms – a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste – should arrange a test using the UK Government Citizens’ Portal  or by calling 0800 028 2816.
