The physical education staff at a Tayside academy have been making the most of transfer deadline day.

Teachers at Monifieth High School have been using the sport department’s official Twitter account to keep the world up to date with the latest signings to and from its squads.

Today is transfer deadline day in Scotland and England, with clubs vying to make last minute additions to their teams for the 2017-18 football season.

And, if the tweets are to believed, Monifieth High’s young stars are being linked with the likes of Premier League clubs Swansea and Leicester City.

The department joked one of their young footballers, Cavin Tosh, could be replacing striker Fernando Llorente, who is moving to Spurs.

There are also rumours circulating about big name transfers between the school’s S3 and S4 sides.

Teachers Graham Hopkins and Paul Sludden are behind the activity at the Angus school, and said the feed would be updated throughout the day with big signings possible.

They also claim the school’s sports coordinator, Ian Lockhart, has apparently been approached to take on the role of director of football at Hearts.

The PE teacher has also apparently approached Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon to bring youngster and school alumni, Luc Bollan, back to the squad for a “return of the glory days”.

Mr Hopkins, who plays as a striker for East Stirlingshire FC, said: “It is the first time we have done it, we are trying to raise awareness of our Twitter account and and trying to get information across to the pupils.

“Luc Bollan was at our school last year and he has gone onto United. Cammy Kerr was also at the school. It shows maybe that hard work that has gone into the PE department.

“The feed will be updated throughout the day and the night.

“It’s been good for the kids who have kind of took to it and have been having a bit of a joke about it as well. It is about getting the kids involved in our department. It shows what we are trying to do is working.”

When quizzed on potential big name signings for Monifieth High later today, he added: “You never know”

Fellow PE teachers Derek Paterson, Ian Lockhart and Diane Morton are also in on the fun.
