Arbroath musical festival sets the pace on second day

The second day of the 87th Arbroath and District Musical Festival saw the event really get into its stride.

Organisers have paid tribute at the high quality of the talent on display.

Ailsa MacDonald & Ruairidh Cowieson won the Arbroath Music Festival medals for the vocal duet.
Emily Reid won the W McGregor Esq Gold Challenge Medal for Scottish Songs.

Festival secretary Susan Robertson said: “We are all delighted at the children’s performances.

“It really is such a big thing to go in front of an audience and perform at a festival like this one.

Competing in Burns Songs group were Emily Reid, the winner Catie Mathieson & Megan Cant.
Megan cant from Dundee High won the William Hunter Esq Challenge Cup for class 25 vocal solo girls & the Miss Elizabeth Kinnear Milne Memorial Cup for class 28 vocal solo girls.

“It has also been very positive to see people come along and enjoy what is on offer, and I would encourage the public to come along and see the for themselves the range of talent that we have in the area.”

Robert Allan won the Arbroath Festival Instrumental Trophy playing the tuned percussion.

“The tickets are very reasonably priced too at just £3 per session or spectators can stay all day for £7.

The competition saw a range of classes including elementary drumkit, solo verse speaking, advanced snare drum and Burns verse.
