Demolition squad to start taking down parts of Woodmill High School

A demolition crew will arrive at fire-ravaged Woodmill High School on Friday.

Contractors will begin the task of bulldozing the worst-affected parts of the Dunfermline school which went up in flames on Sunday.

Work to take down the department of additional support (DAS) wing is to start imminently, Fife Council said.

Meanwhile, a warning was issued to people to stay away from the site and parents were urged to ensure their children kept their distance.

Head teacher Sandy McIntosh said: “There are parts of the building that we won’t be able to salvage and demolition contractors are taking control of the site from tomorrow (Friday).

“The community should therefore be prepared for demolition starting on the DAS wing imminently as we start to make the site safe.

“We must urge people to stay away from the Woodmill site and I’d ask parents to ensure their young people are not heading to this area.

“It is not a safe place to be.”

Meetings were held with parents of S5 and S6 pupils on Thursday and are to be held with families of DAS pupils on Friday.

Mr McIntosh said logistical arrangements were starting to line up and he hoped more information would be available on Friday about plans for S1 to S4 pupils.

He added: “I believe we’ll be able to accommodate individual year groups together within facilities in west Fife by the end of next week.”

Youngsters in S5 and S6 are due to return to studies from Monday, with alternative accommodation secured.
