Perth railway exhibition celebrates 25 years of modelling excellence

Perth and District Model Railway Club’s annual exhibition will celebrate its 25th anniversary later this month.

The show was originally run as a small one day event held in the now closed Lesser City Hall with only a handful of model railways on display.

The Silver Jubilee event, being held at the Dewars Centre on June 25 and 26, will complete a remarkable journey for the exhibition into one of the biggest and best exhibitions in the UK.

Exhibition manager Stan Moug said the exhibition had put Perth on the map within the hobby, attracting fantastic model railways and visitors from all corners of the UK.

He said: “This year there will be over 40 model railways on display, with the remaining exhibits made up of trade stands and specialist railway societies.

“Joining many high quality model railways coming from all over the UK, as far away as Birmingham, local clubs from Stirling, Glenrothes, Dundee, Cupar and Crail will be bringing their own exhibits.

“Of note this year, an absolute work of art – a scale model of the Forth Railway Bridge; a gem of a layout named The Worlds End, which features superb architectural modelling of a location in Knaresborough in Yorkshire and a full size railway relic – a restored Scammell Scarab mechanical horse.”

The Perth club will be exhibiting their layout, Almond Bridge, which depicts a modern railway station loosely based on Stirling.

Mr Moug added: “Our aim is to promote the hobby, educate, entertain and inspire our visitors as well as provide a great family day out at the excellent Dewars Centre.”

The doors open at 10am each day.
