Here are our top picks for perfect Perthshire days out:

1. Scottish Game Fair

The Scottish Game Fair has been a firm fixture on the Perthshire events calendar for more than 35 years.

The three-day event, held in the grounds of Scone Palace, is billed as a celebration of the Scottish countryside. Every aspect of country life is represented, from fishing and hunting to working dogs and food and drink.

Special guests this year include Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchen and Tony Singh, who will both be cooking in a highland firecage kitchen.

Dog lovers will relish the chance to meet four-legged friends from three rare Scottish breeds: the Dandie Dinmont Terrier, the Scottish Deerhound, and the Gordon Setter.

2. The Great Gatsby

Pitlochry Festival Theatre have collaborated with Derby Theatre to bring Elizabeth Newman’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby to Perthshire this summer.

The new version of the story brings F Scott Fitzgerald’s characters to life against the glitz and glamour of the Jazz Age. Dreams are big but life moves fast and big decisions will impact everyone in this literary masterpiece.

The Great Gatsby is recommended for ages 12+.

3. Macbeth: History or a myth?

History or Myth is an interactive experience tying in with the Macbeth Exhibition at the recently refurbished Perth Museum.

Visitors are invited into a medieval campsite to meet Macbeth and Lady Gruoch. The infamous pair will bring 11th-century Scotland to life and tell you about their experiences as you try to find the truth behind the stories.

Step into 11th-century Scotland and uncover the truth behind the legend! Booking in advance is required and tickets for the event can then be used anytime between 11am and 4pm on July 5.

4. Summer Ranger Events, Atholl Estates

Join Atholl Estates ranger Julia as she delivers a packed programme of family-friendly activities for the summer holidays.

In return for a small donation, children can enjoy everything from science experiments to art and craft sessions and even a mini Highland Games.

5. Perth Highland Games

Another stalwart of the Perth summer schedule, Perth Highland Games is a favourite day out for local families and visitors.

Traditional events such as weight-throwing, the caber toss and Highland dancing all feature in the celebration of Scottish games. With competitions for men, women and juniors.

There is an array of trade stands, a food court and even some Medieval armed combat to wow spectators!

6. Visit The Birks Cinema, Aberfeldy

Perfect for a rainy day, why not check out Highland Perthshire’s only cinema?

The Birks is a community enterprise run by local people determined to save Aberfeldy’s beautiful cinema.

The building is now home to a state-of-the-art cinema, cafe/bar and community space for activities and events.

This summer, look out for screenings of How to Train Your Dragon and The Ballad of Wallis Island, as well as acoustic nights, craft sessions and more.
