Karly Robertson is a former eight-times Scottish figure skating champion and 2014/15 national champion. The 26-year-old was born in Dundee and has lived in the city all her life. A member of the British Olympic team, she’s currently training towards a place at the 2018 Winter Olympics. She shares her firsts and lasts with us.
Q] First memory?
A] My first memory is watching a movie called Ice Castles with my mum. I wanted to be just like the girl in the film. I would leap around the living room doing all the jumps and pretending I was her.
Q] Last resolution?
A] My last resolution was to always look at the positives in everything I do.
Q] First job you had?
A] My first job is actually still my current job, I have been working at Tesco Extra Dundee since I was 16. I am also a full time athlete in figure skating.
Q] Last time you took a holiday?
A] My last holiday was last May. I went to Florida for training but also had some quality time to sightsee while I was there.
Q] First time you wanted to do the job you’re doing now?
A] See my first memory! I’ve wanted to be a figure skater since I was a little girl. The only problem was there was no ice rink in Dundee but when it opened a few months later my parents took me along and I have never looked back since.
Q] Last time you quit a job?
A] I have never quit figure skating since the day I started. The only time I have been away from the sport is when I have been injured or when the ice rink has been closed.
Q] First time you dressed up smart?
A] My Burns Supper night at high school.
Q] Last fancy dress costume?
A] I dressed up as Lara Croft for Halloween a couple of years ago
Q] First dish you look for on a menu?
A] I normally look for a simple pasta dish.
Q] Last thing you cooked yourself?
A] lentil pie and yes it was very tasty.
Q] First record you bought?
A] I don’t think I have ever bought a record.
Q] Last time you sang a song?
A] Yesterday in the car – Love Yourself by Justin Bieber.
Q] First time you spoke in public?
A] When I was a kid doing a Robert Burns poem. I was pretty nervous.
Q] Last time you made a fool of yourself?
A] It’s an ongoing thing for me as there’s always something silly I end up doing each day. I never fail to amuse people!
