A brand new Indian restaurant, owned by three childhood friends, is opening soon in Forfar.

Jeet, located on the town’s Castle Street, is owned and run by John, Gabriel and Lawrence, who grew up in Bangladesh together.

Lawrence, the restaurant’s manager, explained: “Jeet really is a family business. As well as the three of us, our families will be running things. John is our chef and Gabriel is a director, while I’ll be managing the restaurant.”

The trio have been in the hospitality industry for nearly 25 years and are bringing that wealth of experience to their latest endeavour.

Lawrence said: “We are doing things a bit different at Jeet. We are using fish in more of our dishes and we will have items on the menu that are unique to us.

“But of course we will have traditional dishes too, like korma.”

Jeet will have vegan and vegetarian options, and can work with customers to accommodate any food allergies.

To prepare to open as Jeet, the men had to transform the restaurant, which was formerly a Chinese restaurant.

“In terms of the dining room, we have changed the décor to give it a more Indian feel,” Lawrence explained, “but it’s the kitchen that has seen the biggest difference.

“We totally changed it from top to bottom because the style of Chinese and Indian cooking are so different and require different equipment.

“But we wanted our food to be as authentic as possible so we were happy to make the big changes.”

But it’s not just about the food, the Jeet team is keen to be involved in the town.

“Our motto is, ‘serving the community with care and quality’ and we want to get involved.

“We are currently looking at reducing the levels of waste in the restaurant and are looking to contribute to local foodbanks with our leftover items.”

For the first two weeks they are open, customers will get 20% off their food bill.

Jeet is open seven nights a week for sit in, takeaway or delivery (lunchtime opening on Friday and Saturday only, with a special three course menu) until 10.30pm.
