Starman: The World’s Greatest David Bowie Show

David Bowie fans shouldn’t miss the opportunity to see this glittering tribute to the music legend when it hits Courier Country.

Theatre star Michael King is perfectly placed to bring the many different Bowie personas to life – including Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, the Thin White Duke and Major Tom.

These are the characters who delivered many of the most inspiring and enduring songs of a generation.

David Bowie is one of the most influential music artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The singer, songwriter and actor was probably best known for his personal reinventions and incredible visual presentation.

His record sales – from the releases of Space Oddity in 1969 to his final album, Blackstar, which was released just two days before he died in 2016 – have been estimated at 140 million albums worldwide.

Experimentation was always at the centre of his work and he emerged in 1972 as one of the biggest personalities of the glam rock era, Ziggy Stardust.

This flamboyant and androgynous character was then left behind when Bowie’s style veered towards plastic soul in the mid-1970s.

He also carried off acting roles in cult films such as The Man Who Fell to Earth and Labyrinth.

Keeping the Bowie memory alive and with the help of a group of fabulous musicians and singers, Michael King will wow his audience with his renditions of Rebel Rebel, China Girl, Let’s Dance, Life on Mars and many, many more hits.

The show also includes big-screen audio-visual footage plus various costume changes, all coming together to create an awesome show taking the audience on a fantastic voyage of Bowie hits.

“David Bowie’s musical genius is untouchable and therefore to me, he is the ultimate icon,” said Michael.

“The Bowie musical catalogue is so diverse yet unique and continually creative. It retains the ability to impact and influence many of the past, present and future musical compositions in a way only a creative genius like David Bowie can do.”

Having been a Bowie fan from a young age, Michael said forming the Starman band felt like the “right thing to do”.

“I remember queuing overnight at the old Maine Road football stadium in Manchester in 1987 just so I could get to the front to watch Bowie’s Glass Spider Tour.

“How could I do anything else after that experience?”

So what’s the best part of performing as David Bowie?

“That’s easy – performing such awesome music and paying tribute to my musical hero is both an honour and an awesome experience.”
