Three Angus folk musicians are launching a 10-track CD of original songs about Arbroath.

Slipway: An Arbroath Songbook, features the work of Alan Mowatt (vocals), Tony Simpson (accordion and keyboards) and Ian Lamb (guitar).

The launch takes place at Arbroath British Legion on Monday night.

Mr Lamb, a former Courier journalist who wrote all the songs, explained that the CD was inspired by him writing a song for the bicentenary of the Bell Rock lighthouse in 2011/2012.

He said: “The CD comprises 10 new and original songs about Arbroath incorporating history, heritage and humour.

“It’s a real ‘in the community, by the community for the community’ effort as the cost of recording and manufacture was covered by the Arbroath Guildry and the Arbroath Improvement Trust.

“It was printed in Arbroath by VP Online, and all the proceeds of the sale will be distributed to charities within the community.

“You never know, it might even inspire musicians in other towns to do something similar for their community!”

  • Slipway: An Arbroath Songbook launches at the Royal British Legion, Arbroath at 7.30pm on April 24. Copies, priced £10 each, are available via slipwayarbroath@btinternet.com
