Scotland’s most favourite biscuit has been revealed – and it’s the all-conquering Empire biscuit that tops the lot!
Cookery brand Breville collected Google data to find out which biscuits the nation has been searching most for recipes and to purchase.
And somewhat surprisingly, north of the border the Empire biscuit pipped shortbread to the crown – although the Scottish delicacy is the UK’s most favourite biscuit according to the data.
In fact, shortbread came top in every region in the UK apart from Scotland and London where they preferred Oreo cookies.
Number three in Scotland was the caramel shortbread, followed by Jaffa Cakes and then Oreo.
In sixth place was gingerbread, with Lotus biscoff in seventh and Wagon Wheels next. Ninth place went to custard creams followed by biscotti.
We love a biscuit
It probably comes as no surprise, but people in the UK certainly love biscuits.
In fact, we enjoy them so much that we eat more in a year than any other European country, with a staggering 13.6kg consumed per person in 2016 alone!
We all have our own personal favourites, and debates have likely raged on in your household over which biscuit deserves the crown as Britain’s best.

A spokesperson for Breville said: “It’s this kind of spirited debate that made us want to investigate further to see exactly what the UK’s favourite biscuit is.
“Using the very handy Google Keyword Planner, we wanted to see which biscuits Brits have been searching for on the web over the past 12 months. We’ve even included recipes for the top contenders, so you can give Great Britain’s favourites a go yourself.
“And for the purposes of this study, we’re calling Jaffa Cakes a biscuit. Why? Because that’s just the way the cookie crumbles…”
