St Andrews Brewing Company (5/5)

What is it?

The Brewpub is a cosy pub in the centre of St Andrews, serving the St Andrews Brewing Company’s own brews, locally sourced food and a range of other drinks.

First impressions:

A welcoming space with friendly and knowledgeable staff, we found a table close to the door where there was room for a highchair and pram. The Brewpub is dog and child friendly and although some of the spaces are a bit tight for a pram, staff are happy to accommodate families, even helping to carry a pram upstairs while we were there.

What did you have?

Dad opted for the beefburger with cheese (£8.95), this is also available as a Beer and Burger Deal including a schooner of St Andrews Brewing Co Beer for £9.95. Mum tried the spring-thyme chicken from the seasonal menu (£9.50), our son chose the pasta from the kids menu, while baby shared a little of everything. We were delighted to discover that children under five eat for free. Other options on the menu include soup and a toastie, tapas-style light bites and comfort food such as stovies.

Together with soft drinks the total bill was £23.

Much of a wait?

We ordered food and drinks at the bar and the meals were brought to our table reasonably quickly.

How was the food?

It was really delicious. The burger was extremely tasty and came with a side of salad and excellent chips. The roasted chicken supreme came on a creamy stew of baby new potatoes, spring onions and thyme and was lovely, if a little salty. The little man’s pasta was a generous portion served with a tasty homemade tomato sauce.

Good for kids?

Yes, the children were made very welcome and high chairs were available. The kids menu was refreshingly free of fish fingers and chicken nuggets. There is a baby changer in the accessible toilet downstairs and the staff went out of their way to help another family carry their pram upstairs.

Good for parents?

Absolutely, an ever-changing range of 16 beers on tap plus more than 170 bottled beers will satisfy any beer lover, while there are also great selections of wines and gins for those who aren’t into ale. The food is top notch.

Would you go back?

Yes, it’s a great place to relax and enjoy good food and drinks with or without the kids in tow.
