An application has been submitted to convert the former Balhousie Primary School into social housing.
Submitted by Perth-based Trail Architects on behalf of Perth and Kinross Council, the scheme would see the empty school building and janitor’s house transformed into 21 one-bed flats, four two-bed flats and a three-bedroom house.
The Dunkeld Road building has sat empty and disused since the school closed in June 2023.
In 2018, councillors agreed to shut down the 110-year-old Balhousie Primary, mainly because of its crumbling, past-its-best condition.
Riverside Primary School replaced North Muirton and Balhousie primary schools when it opened in 2023.
Children ‘at risk’ if Perth holiday let allowed
Plans for a short-term let in a block of flats in Perth city centre have been met with opposition.
Bartek Szmajdzinski has submitted an application to convert a flat in Kings Court, on South William Street, into a holiday let.
Full renovation works have been taking place on the property after it was purchased in a “neglected empty condition” just weeks ago.
Mr Szmajdzinski’s supporting statement says the flat was “full of cockroaches, fleas and other bugs” when it was purchased.
However, the proposals were met with five objections during consultation.
Karema Aladin said her children would be “at risk of having complete strangers coming into the building however many times a week” if the plans are approved.
“If a short-term let were to come into place it would eradicate our security and take away from the sense of community we have”, she added.
Highland Fling seeks new Killiecrankie hub
Popular visitor attraction Highland Fling has lodged plans for a new operational hub in Killiekrankie.
The firm, which has been operating a bungee jump from the Garry Bridge for almost 14 years, says its current premises is “no longer fit for purpose”.
It has lodged plans to build a new space that “better supports the day-to-day needs” of the business.
The company is seeking permission to build the new hub 70 metres south of the existing Killiecrankie Visitor Centre.
Five-star Loch Tay holiday home needs consent
A five-star holiday home overlooking Loch Tay has applied for permission to continue operating as a short-term let.
Duallin Farm House, near Lawers, has lodged the retrospective plans with Perth and Kinross Council.
The house is set on a working farm and has received glowing reviews on booking site Unique Cottages.
One guest wrote in January: “We stayed here for a week over Christmas, the house was so clean.
“It was like having your kitchen back home, which was amazing when we were cooking for 6 adults and 2 kids.
“This place was just amazing I would highly recommend.”
No physical changes are proposed at the lochside retreat set on a working farm in Highland Perthshire.
A decision is due to be made on the application in the coming weeks.
Plan for three two-bedroom short-term homes opposite busy Pitlochry car park
Plans to convert a house into three two-bedroom holiday rentals in Pitlochry have been submitted to the local authority.
The application outlines proposals to extend both sides of the existing building and build a new storage facility at the site opposite the busy Ferry Road public car park.
Known as Vrackie View, the vacant home currently comprises five bedrooms and is split across two floors.
The applicant argues the plans will make a positive contribution to the local economy.
