A Dundee priest is in intensive care after being seriously injured in a car crash.
Father Malcolm Hutchison of SS Peter & Paul’s remains in intensive care after the two-vehicle collision on Byron Street on Friday evening.
The 35-year-old is understood to have sustained several broken bones in the incident.
Firefighters used cutting equipment to safely remove Father Hutchison after he became “medically trapped” in his vehicle.
Another 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and has since been released pending further inquiries.
Speaking to The Courier, Mgr. Kenneth J. Canon McCaffrey said the church community is supporting Father Hutchison and his family.
Church is ‘praying fervently’ for injured priest’s recovery
He said: “As a church, we are praying fervently for Father Malcolm’s speedy recovery and return to full health.
“This will probably take some time. Father Malcolm is my assistant priest here at the church.
“It was a serious accident, and we are doing all we can to support him and his family during this difficult time.”
Father Malcolm has served at the Byron Street church since 2022.
Before his time in Dundee, he was part of St Fillan’s RC Parish in Crieff, where he was preparing for his priestly ordination.
