Forfar Sheriff Court’s leaking roof is to be repaired.
Listed building consent has been granted for the replacement of slates and cast iron rooflights on the historic Market Street building.
It is B-listed and dates back to 1871.
The majority of the works will take place on the roof over Court 1, the building’s main courtroom.
The existing Green Peggy slates will be replaced with the best match available, possibly Westmorland green slate.
Where possible, the existing slates will be reused. However, it is anticipated that many will be beyond repair.
Approval for the project was granted under delegated powers.
Arbroath Bell Rock restaurant flats
Six holiday flats behind a popular Arbroath restaurant have received the green light.
Development standards committee members unanimously backed the proposal by the owners of the Bell Rock at Ladyloan.
The flats will be built in two blocks behind the restaurant.
Parking for up to nine cars will be provided.
An existing access from the Bell Rock car park to Wallace Street will be blocked off.
It followed concerns from several residents over traffic issues.
Councillors welcomed the addition of more holiday accommodation for visitors to the town.
Montrose beach groynes
Detailed plans have been submitted for two Montrose beach barriers in the latest stage of the fight against coastal erosion.
The rock groynes would stretch around 100 metres out from the beach near the lowest points of the dunes.
Each would be perpendicular to the shoreline and around ten metres wide.
Construction of the groynes is expected to take around three months.
The application by infrastructure experts AECOM reveals as much as 12 metres of coast was lost at the worst-hit parts of the dunes during the winter of 2023/24.
The application will be considered in due course.
Arbroath farm house
An essential worker’s house is to be built on the site of an old shed at an Arbroath farm.
Permission has been granted for the four-bedroom home at Blairbank, off Denfield Road.
A metal shed will be removed to make way for the one-and-a-half storey house, which will have a floor area of 279 sq m.
McEwan Farms said the new house will improve the efficiency of their operation, which currently employs eight full-time and eight part-time workers.
The application was approved under delegated powers.
Planning officials said the redevelopment of the brownfield site complies with development plan policy.
Barns of Wedderburn houses
A proposal for two new homes on disused ground near the border of Dundee has come forward.
The land is part of the garden ground of Barns of Wedderburn Farmhouse, near Dundee.
But over the years the land has become a prime spot for fly-tipping, abandoned vehicles and unauthorised off-road motorcycle use.
Its owners now want to build new family homes there. They would be three and four-bedroom.
The site sits on the local school bus route and a new bus stop is part of the application.
It is yet to be determined.
100,000-panel Forfar solar farm
A Perthshire firm has submitted plans to the Scottish Government for a major solar farm and battery energy storage scheme in the Vale of Strathmore.
BLC Energy is the developer behind the Cossans scheme, a few miles west of Forfar.
It would comprise around 100,000 solar panels on two areas of farmland.
The proposal also incorporates up to 50MW of battery energy storage.
The development would link to the grid at Lunanhead, on the east side of Forfar, and BLC hope to secure a connection before 2030.
A community fund worth £25,000 a year would operate during the 40-year lifetime of the project.
The application will be determined by the Scottish Government’s energy consents unit.
Monifieth counselling facility
A former Monifieth office is to be converted into a counselling centre.
Shape Therapy has secured permission for alterations and change of use to the building at 55 High Street.
Their plans involve the creation of seven counselling suites within the vacant property.
The premises were previously used by Monifieth Local History Society.
Planning permission was granted under delegated powers.
Officials said it would bring a vacant building back into community use.
“The proposal is of a scale and nature which would be appropriate for its location,” they added.
