Pitlochry residents are being quizzed on plans to open up the town’s skate park to all kinds of wheeled activities.
Volunteers want to turn the existing site at Pitlochry Recreation Ground into an “all-wheels park”.
A group of local parents have come up with a plan to expand and improve the current attraction.
They want to make it suitable for cyclists, skaters, skateboarders, scooters, balance bikes and wheelchair sports.
The design could also include a multi-purpose flat pad designed for those just starting out on wheels and for activities such as skipping, basketball and netball.
A survey has been launched to measure support for the move.
People have until 7pm on Friday to have their say.
Organiser and local parent Kate Thompson says the dream is to create a place where people of all ages can meet up, share experiences, have fun and be active in a safe environment.
And she says the plan ties in nicely with proposals for a public toilet and cafe in the nearby pavilion, alongside the playground, sports grounds and pathways.
“So far, support from the local community, particularly young people, has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Kate.
“We have had encouraging meetings with other users of the Recreation Ground to see how we can work together to deliver a project that will make a really positive difference in our community.”
Pitlochry residents urged to have say on skate park revamp
A new group has been set up to develop the design.
Pitlochry All Wheels (PAW) is working in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council with support from Pitlochry Community Action Trust and the Pavilion Users Group.
The project has also received funding support from the trust and the Enchanted Forest towards initial design costs.
Improvements to the Recreation Ground are an aspiration in Pitlochry’s Community Action Plan 2022–2027.
Locals have also asked for more community and recreation activities – particularly for young people.
Judith Dingwall chairs Pitlochry Community Action Trust.
She said: “This proposal will go a long way towards achieving that goal by delivering a wheeled sports park facility that is accessible to all in the Pitlochry community and for future generations.
“Hopefully it will inspire residents and visitors, particularly young people, to get on wheels, be active and have fun.”
