A distraught mum has described the horror moment a dog ripped part of her daughter’s thigh off in a Dundee park.
The mum, who has asked not to be named, broke down as she described the injuries inflicted on her daughter by the dog during the attack on Monday.
The girl was playing in a park area just off South Road when she was attacked by the dog, which tore a chunk out of her leg.
She has since undergone surgery at Ninewells Hospital and is due to have another operation on Thursday.
The mum says the damage to her daughter’s leg is so bad, doctors have advised her not to look at the injury.
‘I am completely distraught’
She told The Courier: “Her injuries are horrific, with doctors telling me I really don’t want to see them.
“They have photographs but haven’t shown them to me so far.
“I don’t think I could bear to see them. I am completely distraught at what has happened to my daughter.”
The woman says the dog managed to take the girl’s whole thigh in its mouth, wrapping its jaws around her.
She said: “Part of her leg is missing. The dog has gone off with a chunk of her thigh in its mouth.
“She has already had one operation to try to repair the damage but there is not enough leg left to sew it back together.
“They are now going to have to carry out further surgery to take parts from elsewhere on her body to patch the gap that has been left.
“At this stage, we don’t know how many operations she is going to require or how long she is going to be in hospital for, but certainly for the foreseeable future.”
The girl is on intravenous antibiotics to prevent infection and has had a deep clean of the wound.
The mum added: “I am sickened and scared, and my daughter is also very, very scared.
“That dog is still going about loose in the area.
Girl ‘curled up into a ball to prevent dog attacking face’
“My children have to walk on that path to go to school and it terrifies me that the dog is still allowed to go there and wander off the lead with its owner.
“My daughter is now beginning to show some of the trauma of what happened to her.
“She managed to curl herself up into a ball to prevent the dog attacking her face and neck, but what child should have to do that?
“She is going to need support and counselling as well as lots of medical intervention to recover from this.”
The breed of the dog involved has not been confirmed but it is thought to be a Cane Corso type.
