A ‘major’ cannabis farm has been found in an abandoned Kirkcaldy mill.
Police raided the former mill on Kirkcaldy High Street on Wednesday afternoon.
It’s understood that 28 officers were involved in the raid and found plants across all three floors of the building.
Police remain at the scene, with the farm believed to be ‘potentially as big if not bigger’ than the recent £3.2million plantation discovered in Cowdenbeath.
Courier reporter Neil Henderson is at the scene where the former Fife College building was raided earlier this afternoon.
He said: “Large numbers of police officers are at the building with officers guarding all doorways.
“It’s understood that a team of 28 officers descended on the building early on Wednesday afternoon following intelligence that the building was being used for cannabis cultivation.
Police smash way into former Kirkcaldy mill and discover cannabis farm
“Police forced their way into the ground floor by smashing through glass doors at the side of the property.
“A police source at the scene said once inside, officers discovered a ‘large-scale’ cannabis plantation spread over all three floors of the vacant building.
“It’s understood that detectives investigating the plantation discovery are considering the scale of the plantation to be ‘potentially as big if not bigger’ than the recent cannabis plantation discovered in Cowdenbeath.
“However, it’s likely to be several days before the full extent of the discovery can be confirmed.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Wednesday, officers acting on a warrant attended a derelict building on High Street, Kirkcaldy.
“A cannabis cultivation has been discovered within, and our enquiries are at an early stage.”
