Debate: What can be done to tackle anti-social behaviour in Dundee?

The Courier previously revealed more than 4,000 incidents of anti-social behaviour have been reported to police since 2022. What do you think can be done to solve the issue?

More than 4,000 incidents of anti-social behaviour have been reported to Police Scotland in Dundee city centre since 2022.

A freedom of information request submitted by The Courier revealed that Reform Street is the biggest anti-social behaviour hotspot in the city centre.

In the first four months of 2025, 76 incidents were reported on the street, nearly three times as many as the second-worst overall area, Seagate (28).

The Courier reported on several anti-social behaviour incidents on Reform Street, including when a pile of rubbish was set on fire inside the McDonald’s restaurant, in January.

After obtaining the data, businesses on the problem street spoke out about their concerns.

Betty Sharp, owner of Woolcraft, said it puts people off visiting the street, potentially harming trade.

In response to the findings, Chief Inspector Rachael Burns, Local Area Commander with Police Scotland, said the force “remains committed to reducing anti-social behaviour in the area.”

“We also liaise regularly with partners, including Dundee City Council community wardens, to target problem areas,” she added.

But with 76 incidents reported on Reform Street alone in the first four months of 2025, is enough being done to combat this behaviour?

What would you suggest to address the problem?
