Church officials have provided an update on a Dundee priest who was seriously injured in a crash.

Father Malcolm Hutchison of SS Peter & Paul’s was involved in the collision on Byron Street, near the junction with Leng Street, at around 5.30pm last Friday.

Firefighters had used cutting equipment to safely remove Father Hutchison after he became “medically trapped” in his vehicle.

The 35-year-old was taken into intensive care following the crash.

Another 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and has since been released pending further inquiries.

Update on Dundee priest injured in crash

Speaking to The Courier, Monsignor Kenneth McCaffrey said he and Father Jim Walls had managed to visit Father Hutchison in hospital on Thursday afternoon.

He said: “His fellow priests got in for a short period of time for the first time on Thursday.

“He told us he’d managed a wee bit of a sandwich but he’s going to be in hospital for a long time.”

An update posted on the St Mary’s Lochee –  Parish of the Immaculate Conception Facebook page said: “Fr Malcolm was awake, though very tired.

“He was proud to announce that he’d managed a sandwich and he was able to receive holy communion.

Police closed off a section of Bryon Street following the crash.

“Thank you for all your prayers. We passed on all your love and prayers.”

Father Malcolm has served at SS Peter & Paul’s on Byron Street since 2022.

Before his time in Dundee, he was part of St Fillan’s RC Parish in Crieff, where he was preparing for his priestly ordination.
