Five senior Dundee City Council officials – including the chief executive and head of Leisure and Culture – received a pay rise on their six-figure salary last year.
A report published by the local authority reveals five out of the six most senior employees saw their pay packet increase in the 2024-25 financial year.
Council chief Greg Colgan pocketed £179,966. This includes a £2,748 remuneration for election duties.
Mr Colgan received £170,049 in 2023-24 – meaning he got a 6% pay rise.
Meanwhile, Judy Dobbie, who heads Leisure and Culture Dundee, received £125,210 in the last financial year – up 4% from the previous year.
This was up from the £120,850 salary she took home in 2023-24.
Which other senior figures at Dundee City Council saw increases in their salary?
Robert Emmott, executive director of corporate services, and Robin Presswood, who is the executive director of city development, also saw an increase in their pay packet.
They took home £140,895 and £140,644 respectively in the 2024-25 financial year.
Mr Emmott retired on March 28.
Audrey May, executive director of children and families, received £140,644 – an increase of 4% on the previous year.
However, the 2024-25 salary paid to the executive director of neighbourhood services was lower than the previous year.
Tony Boyle assumed the role in April last year, succeeding Elaine Zwirlein who retired the previous month.
Council purse strings tightening
The salary figures come four months after Dundee City Council’s budget – which included an 8% increase in council tax – was set.
A series of cuts were also made, including a 1% reduction in the money allocated to secondary schools and scrapping the small skip service.
Meanwhile, the axe also fell on Caird Park golf course after councillors voted to approve its closure last December.
Leisure and Culture Dundee, which ran the attraction on behalf of the council, said the closure would save it around £335,000 a year.
