The pavement parking ban comes into force in Fife on September 1.
The Scottish Government legislation aims to improve accessibility for people with wheelchairs and prams.
And drivers could face a £100 fine if they park on footpaths.
Parking over dropped kerbs and double parking are also banned.
However, forcing all vehicles onto the road could cause problems in some narrow streets, meaning some will be exempt.
Fife Council officers assessed 12,500 streets across the region and have drawn up a list of just 40 possible exemptions.
However, members of the public are being urged to contact their local councillors to nominate any others they feel should be excluded from the Fife pavement parking ban.
Exemptions will be considered if parking fully on the road hinders emergency vehicles.
They could also apply if at least 1.5m of pavement is left clear when cars are parked.
