Police have blasted “dangerous” Fife drivers who performed U-turns on a busy dual carriageway to avoid traffic.
Drivers faced delays at the Redhouse Roundabout near Kirkcaldy following a crash between a lorry and a car at around 8am on Wednesday.
Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene and one person was taken to hospital.
Motorists reported “gridlock” on the A92 southbound between Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy following the incident.
Drivers pull into fast-moving A92 traffic to avoid crash queues
Now, a video has emerged showing several vehicles veering across the grass central reservation south of the Bankhead Roundabout, to join northbound traffic instead of sitting in the queues.
The video, taken just after 9.30am on Wednesday, shows seven drivers making their way over the grass and into fast-moving traffic on the other side of the dual carriageway.
At one point, a car in the outside lane has to quickly move into the inside lane as another car pulls into the road ahead.
Later in the video, vehicles even start queuing across the verge as they wait to join the opposite side of the road.
Police have hit out at the drivers for “prioritising their time over the safety of others”.
Inspector James Henry of the road policing unit told The Courier: “It is disappointing to see several drivers prioritising their time over the safety of others by driving in such an irresponsible and dangerous manner following a crash in Kirkcaldy on Wednesday.
“Road safety remains a priority in Fife, and we will continue to carry out road checks and patrols in the area to ensure our roads are a safe place to travel.
“I would ask anyone who witnessed this behaviour or has dashcam footage which would assist us in tracing these drivers who put others at risk, contact us quoting 0532 of June 25 2025.”
