Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is to receive a hands-off message from Angus Council over under-threat Balmossie station.
This week, the Broughty Ferry station was named as one of the locations which could shut under a Scotland-wide SFRS review.
Another option is the removal of the wholetime Balmossie appliance and its replacement with one on-call tender.
The plans are now the subject of a 12-week public consultation.
However, thousands of people have already signed a petition opposing the loss of Balmossie.
It is the latest threat to the station stretching back over many years.
On Thursday, an emergency motion on the issue was presented to a meeting of the full Angus Council.
It was put forward by Monifieth and Sidlaw councillor Heather Doran.
She said: “Although it sits over the Dundee boundary, it has a potential impact for Monifieth and other areas of Angus.
“The two options could lead to an increase in response times.
“It also might have an impact as far as Arbroath. It’s really an important issue for this area.”
Balmossie role ‘beyond responding to fires’
Fellow ward councillor Beth Whiteside said Balmossie’s remit extended beyond attending fires.
“There’s quite a few specialist teams there for hazmat incidents and flood response,” she said.
“The next nearest flood response team is in Blairgowrie, so that doesn’t give much confidence.
“This can affect a much wider area.
“It’s also a co-location with the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“That’s been working really well and would put that at risk.”
Councillor Craig Fotheringham said: “Balmossie is modernised, it’s been upgraded and doesn’t need any work, like some.
“I fully support this motion.”
Chief fire officer Stuart Stevens said the review represents the first national operational overhaul since the SFRS was formed in 2013.
