The body of a dog that had been set on fire has been found at a Dundee beauty spot.
The horrific discovery was made at Templeton Woods on Friday evening.
It is not known if the male dog, that was found in a small layby just off Dronley Road, was set alight before or after it had died.
However, the person who made the grim find smelled petrol at the scene and witnessed a man carrying petrol from the area where the dog was found back to his car.
Horrific scene at Templeton Woods
Some of the pictures seen by The Courier reveal the scene but are too horrific to publish.
The person who made the discovery contacted Missing Pets Dundee and Angus.
A volunteer went immediately to scan and retrieve the dog, which was taken to Parkside Vets on Kings Cross Road.
The SSPCA and Police Scotland have also been notified.
Missing Pets say they know how traumatic this was for the finder and the volunteer, and are asking anyone with any information to come forward.
‘We don’t understand the whys or hows’
Nicky Beaton of the animal welfare group said: “As always with cases like this, we don’t understand the whys or hows, the reasoning behind it.
“Was the poor dog already dead and this was his owners way of cremating their pet? – we pray this was the case.
“Has this poor dog succumbed to foul play?
“It is devastating and very traumatic to be involved in his recovery but one that needed to be done quickly all the same.
“No member of the public should have had to endure seeing this, and we feel really sorry for the finder because we know how hard this would have been for him.
“We didn’t wish for any other member of the public to have to see the body, which is why we arranged very quickly to retrieve him and take to Parkside Vets.
“Someone must know something. We hope and pray the dog didn’t suffer.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.05pm on Friday 27 June 2025, we received a report that a dog had been found deceased in the Templeton Woods area of Dundee.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”
