Over £20,000 has been raised for the family of a Fife teenager who died in Lochore Meadows.
The body of 15-year-old Alexander McNab was found on Sunday, one day after he went missing while paddleboarding at the country park.
Alexander’s family have since paid tribute to their “much-loved son”, while hundreds of people have also paid their respects to the Auchmuty High School pupil on social media.
Fundraiser to give Alexander McNab ‘send off he deserves’
A crowdfunding page has now been set up to help support Alexander’s family.
The GoFundMe raised more than £20,000 within the first 20 hours.
The fundraiser describes Alexander as a “young, happy boy” and a “hard worker” who worked at the local chip shop in Thornton, where he lived with his mum and brother.
It read: “He was well known in the village for being so polite and popular with a great group of friends.
“This devastating news has shocked the village and the whole of Fife.
“It’s unimaginable what the McNab family are having to face.
“With the permission from the family, we have set up this page to help take any financial worries away for Alexander’s mum so she can give her amazing son the send-off he deserves.
“Help her with day-to-day expenses in the future.
“All money raised with go directly to Alexander’s mum.”
Toby’s Fish and Chip Shop, where Alexander worked, also paid tribute to their “deeply loved” team member.
A Facebook post read: “As most of you will know Alexander sadly passed away on Saturday. Even as I write this, I still can’t believe it to be true.
“He was a deeply loved member of the Toby’s team. He started doing the potatoes for us at just 11 years old.
“He was always smiling, always having a laugh and such a polite boy with an extremely caring nature. We will miss him dearly.
“Please donate if you can to help his mum and family through this tragic time.
“We love you Alexander, we’ll miss you buddy.”
