A Dunfermline fish and chip shop has been named the best in Fife.

The Golden Chip takeaway on Pilmuir Street was awarded best fish and chip shop at the region’s Scotland’s Business Awards event on Sunday.

Golden Chip is operated by Rosy Rossi, 33, and her husband Stefano Rossi, 35.

Stefano and their landlord were presented with the award at a ceremony at the Dean Park Hotel on Sunday.

Rosy told The Courier they were “very chuffed” to win the award.

She said: “It is a nice surprise because we only took over the business last August.

“It has made a difference and we have had more customers coming in since we announced we had won the award.

“We’ve just continued to sell your traditional fish and chips.

“But we have added several items to the menu as well, like haggis bites since we took over.”

Dunfermline couple ‘born and bred in a fish and chip shop’

When Rosy and Stefano took over the Golden Chip last summer, they kept the name it has had since it opened more than 30 years ago.

They now employ 10 staff members, but fish and chips are also in their blood.

“I was born and bred in a fish and chip shop”, added Rosi.

“We had experience before we took over the shop and this is not our first rodeo.

“My family ran a chip shop for years.”

Rosi’s family became involved in the Scottish fish and chips trade when her father migrated from Italy in around 1987.

And Stefano previously owned another fish and chip shop in Edinburgh.

Earlier this year, The Courier looked at five other popular Dunfermline fish and chip shops.
