One of Scotland’s best-kept footballing secrets has finally been revealed.
Oor Wullie is a Lichtie!
The Sunday Post favourite is part of a line-up of the nation’s favourite comic strip characters in the latest summer display by Arbroath’s Woolly Workers.
And the group of town knitters have shown Wullie’s true colours are the maroon and white of Gayfield.
The cheeky chappie sits proudly on his bucket wearing an Arbroath FC scarf.
The Woolly Workers have become famous for brightening up the town with their colourful creations.
The yarn bombers have previously produced everything from a 10-foot Christmas tree to a giant unicorn.
They got cracking with the comic strip characters after Christmas.
Desperate Dan, Dennis the Menace, Gnasher and Minnie the Minx all feature in the Old Shore Head display.
It sits opposite the Commercial Inn, where the Woolly Workers gather for their weekly knit-ins.
Jane Hannigan of the Woolly Workers said the display is already going down a storm with locals and visitors.
“It’s been great so far. We always get really good feedback,” she added.
“We started this just after Christmas, but also did an Easter one in between.
“Someone just came up with the idea of characters from the Beano and Dandy.
“And we had to have Oor Wullie as a Lichtie.”
Photographer Kim Cessford popped along to the Woolly Workers weekly get together.
