Hannah Laing has paid tribute to “best mate” Ellie Scanlan, who has died aged 30.

The Dundee DJ, who is set to host her inaugural doof in the Park dance festival in the city this weekend, described her friend as “loyal to the core”.

She says Ellie was due to attend the event and vowed to “power on” in her memory.

In a post on Facebook, she wrote: “I write this with a broken heart. It doesn’t feel real.

“My best mate is gone and now a piece of me too, words can’t comprehend it.”

She continued: “You weren’t just my friend you were my sister.

“Everyone would always comment on how our personalities were so similar.

“We got into a s*** load of trouble growing up. We went through every stage of life together.

“You were at my first ever gig. You always had my back, loyal to the core.

“I’ll cherish those mischievous memories for the rest of my life.

“I’ll miss your kindness, your craziness, your wild stories.

“You were the funniest, wittiest person I have ever met. Your charisma was f******* infectious.

“You were of course supposed to be coming to doof in the Park on Saturday and I know you would want me to power on.

“This one is for you.

“Love to my Scanlan fam. I’ll miss you so f****** much.

“Love you always Ellie.

“Rest in peace my sister. I’ll carry you with me forever.”

Tributes after death of ‘lovely’ Glenrothes footballer

Ellie has also been remembered by her former coaches at Glenrothes Strollers Ladies Football Club.

Manager Pauline Harley said: “Both Kerry Dickson, assistant manager, and I knew Ellie through football for a number of years and she joined us at Strollers last season.

“She was a great person who was so unselfish and wanted the best for people.

“She had planned on coming back too. A lovely girl who will be missed.”

The team is set to retire Ellie’s number 22 after her death.

Gill Young, who runs The Shack Street Food in Dundee, also posted on social media.

She wrote: “To hear of Ellie’s passing has again knocked us all for six, I can’t even write the words as it’s just sinking in.

“As the family of Ellie try to comprehend this, they will need time and privacy as you know, there is a squad of them, thankfully.

“I love every one of them.

“This Saturday, Hannah has the biggest night of her life and not having Ellie there is going to be so bloody heartbreaking.

“But Dundee we are gonna be there and for these twa wee legends who have fought so hard in this life and to be parted at this point we will chant their names so f***** loud they will hear us in Ibiza.

“We always come together strong with love and positive vibes we are famous for it.”

Police treating death as unexplained

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.10pm on Tuesday July 1 we received a report of the death of a 30-year-old woman at a property on Tullideph Street, Dundee.

“Her next of kin is aware.

“The death is being treated as unexplained, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
