The owner of a cafe in Inverkeithing has spoken of her heartbreak after two break-ins in less than a month.
Marzena Barclay, who owns the family-run Starosta Cafe on Inverkeithing High Street, is worried about the safety of staff after the break-ins.
The cafe, which opened just six months ago, was hit on June 4 and 30 when the glass door entrance was smashed by vandals.
Police say inquiries into both incidents are ongoing.
The cafe door has been left boarded up, with plans to install shutters to combat future break-ins.
Inverkeithing cafe owner worried about staff safety after break-ins
Marzena told The Courier: “This has now happened twice in the last month. I’m really worried that this will happen again.
“I’m concerned about the safety of the staff team, and the last few days have been quite stressful.
“When the neighbours first called to tell me about the latest incident, I thought she was going on about the first incident.
“I couldn’t believe it happened again.”
The 43-year-old added: “We don’t leave any money in the cafe and there’s not much of value to be stolen.
“As a result, we’ve had to board up the front door and are in the process of getting shutters for the front of the shop.
“We just opened a little over six months ago, and we’re still trying to get off the ground and find customers.
“Coupled with the roadworks in the town centre, it’s been hard.
“The cafe is family-run and I have three kids at home
“We’re heartbroken by what’s happened, but I’m very grateful for the support of the community.”
