Dundee City Council is set to take legal action after Travellers pitched up at the city’s Riverside Park.
At least seven caravans were parked up close to the Barnetts showroom on Thursday morning.
It comes after another large encampment, with dogs, chickens and a Shetland pony, was moved on from the site in May.
The group were first spotted with a Shetland pony at Camperdown on May 5.
The council was also forced to take action later that month when encampments arrived at Clatto Country Park and Finlathen Park, off Fountainbleu Drive.
Dundee council taking legal action after Travellers pitch up at city park
The Courier revealed last week that the local authority had taken legal action against Traveller camps more than two dozen times in the past three years.
In 2024, the city council spent £1,602.81 on legal action against Traveller encampments.
And so far this year, £721.44 has been spent.
Dundee City Council says it is aware of the most recent group at Riverside Park and is in the process of legally moving them on.
A spokesperson said: “The council is aware of this encampment and is moving to take legal action.
“In the meantime, the council’s liaison officer has visited the site to offer advice.”
According to Shelter Scotland, it is a criminal offence to lodge, occupy or encamp on privately owned land without the consent of the owner.
Dundee City Council runs a purpose-built site for Traveller groups at Balmuir Wood in Tealing, Angus.
However, the site has been barely occupied since 2019 with the local authority set to spend almost £250,000 on upgrades in the coming months.
The Courier recently reported that the unpopularity of Balmuir Wood remains a “concern” for Angus Council in tackling unauthorised encampments in the area.
